Anthony J. (Tony) Cognato, Sr.
November 27, 2012
Waterboro

Anthony J. “Tony” Cognato, Sr., passed away at his home on November 27, 2012.

He was born in Chelsea, Massachusetts on November 1, 1942 to Jenny and Dominic Cognato.

In 1973, he moved to Waterboro with his wife Martha and their children, Tony Jr. and Jeanmarie.

Very soon after their arrival to town, Tony opened a service station and throughout the years had various businesses including an auto parts, auto electrical shop, sub and pizza shop and was an owner/operator truck driver.

He was a special Papa with a big heart, who loved spending time with his family and riding his Harley Motorcycle. To his family and friends, Tony will be remembered as courageous, funny, loving, and “one of a kind.” His family meant the world to him and he cherished every moment he spent with them.

He was predeceased by his parents and grandson, Anthony J. Cognato III.

Tony is survived by his wife, children, son-in-law Brian, daughter-in-law Laurie and grandchildren; Amber and Joseph Cognato; Zachary, Molly and Shelby Gile; and Sarah and Samuel Scully.

Papa had a spirit that enjoyed life and Tony lived for the moment. “Don’t put off till tomorrow what you want to do today.” And “It is what it is.”

Per Tony’s request, services will be private. A Celebration of Tony’s life will be held for family and friends on January 20, 2013 from 2 – 5 p.m. at the former Tony’s Sub Shop in Waterboro.

The Autumn Green Funeral Home is respectfully handling arrangements.
