Madeleine Rose Langley, 73, a beloved Wife, Mother and Grammy, died peacefully surrounded by her loving family, on May 3, 2017 at her home in Acton.

She was born in Sanford on April 20, 1944, the daughter of Joseph H. and Jeanne (Cantara) Jalbert.

Maddy attended Alfred Elementary and graduated from Sanford High School, Class of 1962 and married her high school sweetheart, Clarence (Jim) Langley on August 18, 1962. Maddy’s first employment was at a local shoe shop and also a dress shop in Sanford and Springvale. She also worked at SAD 57 for two years before going to Huggins Hospital, in Wolfeboro, where she was a medical biller for Dr. White in the Radiology department from 1996 – 2003, finishing her career at Wentworth Douglas Hospital in Dover, as a coder for the hospital’s lab.

Maddy loved gardening and has several beautiful flower gardens at her home. She loved camping with Jim and her grandchildren; spending time at Lake Pemaquid in Damariscotta and up and down the coast of Maine.

Maddy was a talented seamstress, making most of her children’s clothing. She was also a great knitter, making Afghans for her children and friends. Maddy loved to read, watch all her birds and tend to all her house plants.  She loved her two cocker Spaniels, Daisey and Coco.  Maddy and Jim took care of the grandchildren and made sure they got off and on the bus safely each day. She may have been small in stature, but she was honest and to the point! She loved having her family gather each Christmas Eve as they shared food, fellowship and childhood stories. Each night while making dinner, she loved sipping on Apricot Brandy.

During Maddy’s illness, Jim made sure she was never alone. He tended to her needs and has been her protector, friend and devoted husband. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends. She has now entered into the peace and presence of God.

She is survived by her husband of 54 plus years, Jim F. Langley; her children, Susan J. Hanna of Sanford; Michelle J. Langley of Wakefield, NH and David J. Langley and wife Wendy of Acton; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; and her brother, Robert Jalbert and wife Cheryl of Alfred.
