A Graveside Service with military honors will be held on Thursday, Dec. 7, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at the Southern Maine Veterans Cemetery, 83 Stanley Rd., Springvale. A reception will follow at the American Legion in Alfred.

Richard Andrew Schillinger, 80, of Alfred, died on November 20, 2017 at Veterans Hospital in Togus.

Richard was born in Bradford, Pennsylvania on June 27, 1937 the son of Richard and Rachel (Collins) Schillinger.

Dick was proud to service his country in the United States Army from 1953 – 1955. He was a career musician and a world class pedal steel guitarist; playing recording sessions in Nashville (with Ernest Tubb and Hank Snow) and touring with Paul Main and the Lonesome Highway Band. Dick enjoyed his “jam sessions” and friends he made at the American Legion, Brown Emmons Post # 134 in Alfred.

He will be sorely missed by his brother and sister, Paul and Cheryl Main of Alfred; and other musician friends through-out his career on the road.

A Graveside Service with military honors will be held on Thursday, Dec. 7, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at the Southern Maine Veterans Cemetery, 83 Stanley Rd., in Springvale. Following the service, you are invited to gather at the American Legion in Alfred to enjoy some of Dick’s favorite music, share some memories and enjoy refreshments together.
