Faith D. Ballenger, 82, died peacefully in the comfort of her home, with her two sons by her side, on January 27, 2018.
Faith was born on May 30, 1935 in Boston, Massachusetts the daughter of Christine Frances Kelliher and Owen Begley Dwyer. She had two siblings who predeceased her, Anne Marie Dwyer and John Dwyer.
Faith graduated with her accounting degree from Bentley University and worked for many years in the Town Hall in Sanford.
In 1967, Faith married Edwin Montgomery Ballenger and they had two sons together, John “Jack” D. Ballenger and Marc E. Ballenger.
When you speak of Sanford, Faith Ballenger’s name is synonymous with volunteering and her generosity.
Faith was a Notary Republic who performed multiple wedding ceremonies and was a volunteer negotiator in the Attorney General Office in Augusta. Within her home town of Sanford, Faith was a town meeting member, Chairman of the Board of Selectman, and served on the Warrant committee and the Airport committee as well as the School Board committee. She held a special place in her heart for the Sanford Mainer’s Baseball organization and being a part of the Goodale Hospital Auxiliary. Faith was a lifelong volunteer and was always giving back.
Faith was also a dedicated member of the Sanford-Springvale Chamber of Commerce and was very humbled by being named Citizen of the Year and Grand Marshall of the Fourth of July parade. She was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Springvale. The list of accomplishments is far too long to list. She was an amazing person who shared her time with so many committees and people. Her energy and work ethic was comparable to none. Faith will be greatly missed by her family, friends and the community.
A Celebration of Faith’s life will be held on Thursday, February 1, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Curtis Lake Christian Church, 38 Westview Drive, in Sanford. Committal prayers and burial will be later in the spring.
She is lovingly survived by her two sons, John “Jack” and Marc Ballenger, both of Sanford and was predeceased by her husband, Edwin.
