Marcelline Carmen (Dery) Martin, 94, of Shapleigh, died on April 27, 2018, at Seal Rock Nursing Home in Saco. She was well loved and cared for by the staff and enjoyed visiting with the other residents.

Marcelline was born in Manchester, New Hampshire on April 11, 1924, daughter of Herve’ and Marguerite (Dubord) Dery.

She loved her home on the lake where she entertained and cooked for her family and friends. Marcy was always cooking, baking, gardening or sewing. Her specialty was making brownies and birthday cakes from scratch. During her working career, she worked at Jagger Brothers Mill as a winder and as a seamstress at Aletta Dress Shop.

Being a devout Catholic, she spent most of her days in prayer. In her younger years, she played the mandolin, guitar and always enjoyed playing the harmonica. Marcy brought her love, time and musical talents to inmates serving time in prison.

Marcy had quite the sense of humor! She would always tell everyone that she wanted to live to be 106 years old. She had a sign in her home that read: “God put me here to accomplish certain things. Right now, I’m so behind, I’ll never die”

Her spunk, tenacity and prayerful life have been a blessing to her family and to those she welcomed into her life and home. She will be dearly missed.

Marcy is survived by her brother, Camille (Pee Wee) Dery, her caretaker and niece, Louise (Dery) Lacroix, many more nieces and nephews in New Hampshire, Massachusetts, and South Carolina. She is also survived by Oscar Martin, Jr. and wife Anna, their daughter, Laurie Pearson and husband Torey of Maine, and Dean and Tony Martin.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Oscar Donald Martin, Sr., to whom she was married for 24 years, her brothers, Robert, Roland, Gerard, John and Paul Dery, and her two sisters, Gabrielle Dery and Monique Langley.

The family extends special thanks to the staff and caregivers of Seal Rock and Compassus Hospice, for letting Marcy enjoy her special treats, music and for letting her live out her days with dignity and grace.
