A Celebration of Murray's life will be held on Sunday, July 8, 2018 from 1 - 4 p.m. at the Autumn Green Funeral Home, 47 Oak St., in Alfred.
Murray G. Greenleaf, Jr., 76, of West Newfield, devoted husband, father, and proud Grandpa, died June 3, 2018, at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough.
Murray was born in Sanford on January 30, 1942, the only child of Murray G. and Dorothy L. (LaRose) Greenleaf, Sr.
Murray was raised in Sanford and met his future wife, Lois Goodwin, while attending Sanford High School. Their love for one another only grew stronger and deeper through-out their 56 years of marriage. They were blessed with a daughter, Leisha and son Brian; and made their home in Shapleigh for many years before moving to West Newfield.
Murray was a well know Master Plumber in his community; he worked for several area families who had cottages and homes on the many lakes in our area. Murray had a big heart and often found himself with too much work. . . He wanted to help anyone in need. Many of his customers became lifelong friends and for many years, his son, Buddy worked right along with his Dad.
Murray enjoyed NASCAR and was a very proud owner of his 1969 Avanti. He and Lois enjoyed going to the many car shows in the area. With good friends, Murray and Lois went deep sea fishing out of Perkins Cove in Ogunquit. With Murray’s full, white beard – he never once played Santa Claus; but a few of his close friends borrowed the suit (His job was to make sure they got home safely!) Very rarely would you find Murray without his big, beautiful Newfoundland by his side. Most recently, his heart melted for his little Yorkie, Bella.
Murray was a humble and good man. He was protective of his family and shared his love openly and without any strings attached. Many could say the Murray was, “Generous to a fault.” He will be dearly missed by his family and many friends.
Murray is lovingly survived by his wife of 56 years, Lois (Goodwin) Greenleaf of West Newfield; his daughter, Leisha Nevins and husband Daniel of Shapleigh; and his son, Brian (Buddy) Greenleaf and wife Cheryl of West Newfield. He was a devoted “Grandpa” to his four grandchildren; Jennifer-Renee Leonard, Brian Leonard, Abby Greenleaf and Sara Greenleaf and his three great-grandchildren; Michael Leonard; Tyler-James Leonard and Isis Coombs. And, their special friends, Fred and Georgie Huntress of Shapleigh.
