Ronald (Ron) G. Authier, 75, of Alfred, died July 1, 2018 in Scarborough, surrounded by his family.

Ron was the only child of George and Eva (Reggiani) Authier of Monson, Massachusetts. Ron and his three cousins spent many years playing at their grandmother’s house where they would help in rolling out the week’s supply of pasta, using a long pasta board and a four-foot rolling pin.

Ron graduated as Salutatorian of his class at Monson High School in 1961. Following his graduation, he joined the U. S. Army and served as an electronic repairman on the NIKE missile system until his honorable discharge in 1963.

He was employed as a field engineer for NCR (National Cash Register) for several years until his retirement. He enjoyed hunting and fishing along the coast of New England.

Ron met his wife Katharine in 2001, and they were married in 2004. Together, they began to travel; sharing a balloon ride in Turkey, a cruise on the blue Danube, shared a walk across the hanging bridge in Costa Rica and photographing the wildlife in the Grand Canyon. Ron was an avid and talented photographer who won may ribbons with the Portland Photography Club.

Ron enjoyed and loved boating on Lake Champlain in Vermont with his 25-foot pontoon which he appropriately named “The Party Barge.” His many brothers and sisters-in-law lovingly referred to him as “Captain Ron.” Most of all, he loved to sit on his deck watching the eagles land on Shaker Pond in Alfred.

Ron will be remembered lovingly by his wife Katharine, his stepson, Nathan Kane and wife Kamala; his grandchildren, Rohan and Anjali Kane; his stepdaughter, Marti Kane, and his many brothers and sisters-in-law; and his cousins and friends.
