A Graveside Service will be held on Sunday, August 5, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. at Maplewood Cemetery in Parsonsfield.

Russell W. Reed, 71, a longtime resident of Parsonsfield, died peacefully with his family by his side, on July 21, 2018 at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough.

Russell was born on June 19, 1947 in Sanford, the son of Walter D. and Freda M. (Nutter) Reed.

Russ married Sharon Martell on June 23, 1967 at the First Baptist Church in Limerick. Together, they built their home in Parsonsfield and raised two children. Russ was a good provider for his family and had a strong work ethic. He worked at Portland Glass in Sanford for 26 years and retired from Pratt and Whitney in North Berwick after 10 years working as a bench mechanic.

Russ spent 30 years building and racing his own race cars, # 60, painted in his favorite colors, orange and yellow! He raced locally at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway, Oxford Plains Speedway, Wiscasset Speedway and White Mountain Motor Sports Park, Auto racing was his passion. Russ was very particular and a talented fabricator of race cars! Going to the races was a family affair every weekend during the racing season.

Russ and Sharon enjoyed riding their Harley Davidson Motorcycle together, exploring and taking day trips. He looked forward to watching NASCAR racing on TV. He and Sharon enjoyed their winter vacations in Palatka, Florida for many years.

Russ’s motto for living was: “Life’s Short, Play Hard!” For those that loved and knew Russ – would agree. He will be missed by his family and many friends.

Russ is survived by his wife of 51 years, Sharon Reed of Parsonsfield; his son, Dana Reed and wife Stephanie of Shapleigh; his daughter, Tracy Reed of Tuftonboro, NH; his brother, Donald Reed and wife Mary of West Newfield; and his sister, Linda Porro and husband Robert of Alton, NH; and many nieces and nephews.

Russ was predeceased by his parents, two sisters, Evelyn McCarthy and Helen Dinsmore, and by two brothers, David and Arthur Reed.

A Graveside Service will be held on Sunday, August 5, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. at Maplewood Cemetery in Parsonsfield.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House, 11 Hunnewell Rd., Scarborough, ME 04074.
