Kevin L. Hurd, 65, beloved husband, father and brother, passed peacefully on January 12, 2019, surrounded in love with his family by his side.

Kevin was born in Kittery on October 5, 1953, the son of Leslie L. and Patricia A. (Ross) Hurd. He grew up in Berwick with his two brothers and three sisters. Kevin graduated from Noble High School with the Class of 1971.

Kevin joined the Berwick Fire Department as a volunteer at the age of 18. This would prove to be the training ground for a long and rewarding career in fire service. He was employed at General Electric in Somersworth, NH and became a volunteer fireman in 1987 with Rollinsford Fire Department, in New Hampshire; where he ‘climbed the ranks’ and became the Assistant Fire Chief; serving for over 30 years. During this time, he served on the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard until his retirement in 2006.  Kevin was well respected and possessed positive leadership skills. The men and women, who trained under him, enjoyed his dry sense of humor and knew he would keep them safe.

Kevin was proud to be a member of the Mariner’s Drum and Bugle Corp of Rollinsford, NH where he played in horn section from 1966 – 1971. He also volunteered to coach the Dover Southside Little League from 1975 – 1977 and was a longtime member of the Knights of Pythias of Berwick from 1971 until this year.

Kevin met his future wife, Michele Rondeau, when they both attended school at St. Michael’s Catholic School in So. Berwick. They became husband and wife on February 21, 1976 and shared 43 years together and were blessed with two children.

Kevin was a man of principle, believed in supporting his family and volunteering for his community. He will sorely missed by his family and his firefighting family. He has now entered into eternal rest and peace.

He is lovingly survived by his best friend and wife, Michele Hurd; his two children, Tanya Lee Lovejoy and husband Chris and Todd Kevin Hurd; his siblings, Keith Hurd, Joseph (Jay) Hurd, Kathy (Hurd) Vancour and Kristen (Twit Hurd) Cole; his brothers-in-law, Robert Rondeau and Edie; Charlie Rondeau, Norm Messier and Jodi Wick, Kevin Vancour, and Brian Cole; his aunt Julie (Ross) Frost and uncle Earl; uncle David Ross; and many nieces, nephews, and great nephews and his firefighter family.

Kevin was predeceased by his parents and his sister, Karen Messier.

A Graveside Service will be held on Thursday, January 17, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at the Evergreen Cemetery, 55 Cemetery Rd., in Berwick.
