A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, February 24, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at the South Waterboro Bible Chapel, 911 Main St., in Waterboro where visitation at the church begins at 1:00 p.m. Following the service, you are cordially invited to join the family in the fellowship hall for refreshments.

George R. Roberts lived for 95 years at his home on Federal Street in Alfred, in the same house in which he was born in 1923, the son of George L. and Edna (Johnston) Roberts.  The doctor came in a horse drawn buggy for his birth.

George graduated in 1942 from Alfred High School. He worked at the shipyard in Portland until he was drafted in 1943.  George was in the 534th Army Amphibious Engineers until his discharge in January 1946.  While he was in the U.S. Army he served in Australia, the Philippians, and Japan.

George married his wife Gladys Brown Roberts in January of 1950. They were blessed with three daughters, Marilyn, Joyce, and Ellen. George owned his own construction business and together he and Gladys started their own business at their house in 1962 fabricating septic tanks.  The business was moved to Route 111 in 1982 and they retired in 1985.

George and Gladys enjoyed spending time with their family, friends, and traveling across the country and Europe in their retirement.

He was predeceased by his sister, Barbara Roberts Lord.

George’s legacy of life continues with his wife of 69 years, Gladys Roberts of Alfred; his three daughters, Marilyn Tosi and husband David of New York; Joyce Violette and husband Philip of Shapleigh and Ellen Morrison and husband Paul of Alfred; his grandchildren, Steve and Shannon Violette, Stacey and Ken Moulton, Rachel Morrison, Timothy Morrison, Toby and Kiley Luman and Sam Tosi; his great grandchildren, Makayla and Kelsie Moulton; and his brother, Paul Roberts of Sanford.

Committal prayers with military honors will be held late in the spring at Evergreen Cemetery in Alfred.
