Robert (Bob) Knight, 83, a lifelong resident of Alfred, died peacefully at his home with his loving family by his side on May 12, 2019.
Robert was born on October 20, 1935, in Waterboro, the son of Henry and Ruth (Johnson) Knight. He graduated from Sanford High School in 1954 and following graduation Robert married the love of his life, Judy Mitchell. Robert enlisted in the US Air Force in 1955 and was honorably discharged in 1959.
To those who were blessed to spend time with Bob, they lovingly referred to him as “Mr. Easy Going.” Robert was a wonderful husband, devoted father, and friend; his patience, kind, and loving manner showed through with all that had the pleasure of knowing him.
Robert had a fondness for taking motorcycle trips on his new Goldwing, traveling to the Smokie Mountains, Tennessee as well as Kentucky. One memorable trip was traveling to Fort Bragg with his son Jimmy.
Robert was a proud member of the Alfred Masonic Fraternal Lodge, # 55 AF & AM, receiving his 50-year pin. Bob was also the worthy patron of the Order of the Easter Star, Fern Chapter.
Robert worked very hard to ensure that his family had all that they needed; he worked in various fields during his life, including owning Bob Knights lawn and garden equipment. But for many years he drove tractor trailers for Paul V. Adams Trucking, Auclair Transportation and Consolidated Freightways; retiring after 26 years in the trucking industry. Bob was also a member of the Teamsters Union during his trucking career.
Retirement gave Robert the time to enjoy the little things in life; putting puzzles together, feeding the many birds that visited their yard, following NASCAR racing, collecting coins and Win Ross truck models, hunting and family gatherings.
Robert is lovingly survived by his wife of 65 years, Judy Knight of Alfred; his two sons Greg and his wife Heather of Alfred; Jim and his wife Karen of Waterboro; and three daughters Lisa and her significant other Dan Leclair of Standish; Martha and her husband Alan of Scarborough; and Jane and her husband Dave of Biddeford.
Robert could not have been more pleased with sharing time with his ten grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren (two of whom share his birth date.)
A Graveside Service with military honors will be held on Friday, May 31, 2019, at 11:00 a.m. at the Evergreen Cemetery, in Alfred.
