Elaine A. Bazemore, of Country Club Road in Sanford, died peacefully on March 26, 2015 at Southern Maine Healthcare in Biddeford.
She was born in Portland on March 3, 1927 the daughter of Joseph and Hilda (Swanson) Flaherty.
Elaine attended Catholic schools and lived with her family in Portland. On January 5, 1953, Elaine married her soul mate and husband, Arthur Wayne Bazemore and they were blessed with two children, a son, Thomas and daughter Bonny. For the past 45 years, they have called Sanford their home.
Elaine was a stay-at-home mom and when her children were older and in school, Elaine worked part time at Woodman’s Jewelry Store, at Mercy Hospital and later at a local photo studio. She loved helping people and these positions were a perfect match with her outgoing and caring nature. Elaine was active within her community and was a long-time member of the American Legion Auxiliary, serving as the president for two terms. Later in her life, Elaine returned to school and was very proud to graduate with her diploma from Sanford High School. She enjoyed being with a diverse group of people and made friends easily within the classroom.
Elaine was a true animal lover. Through-out the years, she had many dogs that were spoiled and loved unconditionally. One day she rescued a skunk on the side of the road; wrapped the skunk up in a blanket and took it to her local veterinarian for help! She never worried once about the skunk spraying inside her car. That was Elaine’s faith in nature.
Elaine and Wayne enjoyed many adventures together. They wintered in Florida for several years and took an extra week to explore on their way down South. They visited Elvis Presley’s place of birth, Graceland and other museum’s in Tennessee. She enjoyed visiting Disney World, Cypress Gardens, Alligator Land and Sea World. As long as she and Wayne were together, they would be just as happy to spend a day at Wells Beach or eating out at their favorite restaurant, Mel’s Raspberry Patch.
Elaine remained strong in her faith that nurtured and guided her throughout her life. She was a loving mother who had weathered her share of grief from losing her children; her son Thomas, during his service with the United States Army in the Vietnam War and then her daughter Bonny, following a long illness. She will be reunited with her children and has entered into eternal rest. We will miss you and our cherished memories will remain strong and guide our days ahead.
She is lovingly survived by her husband, Wayne Bazemore of Sanford; her sister, Janet Conboy and husband Luke of Rhode Island; her half-sister, Mary Ann Foley of Limerick; her grandchildren, Crystal Hahn and husband Brad of New Mexico; and Elaine Gribble of Colorado; her great-grandchildren, Ashley, Charity, Kaitlin, and Emma Junkins; and Chelsie and Savanah Hahn.
Elaine was also predeceased by her parents and by her brother, Thomas F. Flaherty.
Family and friends are invited to call on Thursday, April 2nd at the Autumn Green Funeral Home, 47 Oak St., in Alfred from 4 – 6 p.m. A Graveside Service will be held on Monday, April 6, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. at Calvary Cemetery in So. Portland.
