William J. (Bill) Murphy, 75, of Alfred, Maine died at his home on December 7, 2015.

William was born in Somerville, MA in 1939, a son of Edward and Ethel (Brennan) Murphy; brother of Edward Murphy, Jr. and his wife Muriel, of Reading, MA; raised in Medford, MA, attended Medford Public Schools, Bentley School of Accounting and other higher education facilities.

Bill was the beloved husband of Mary (Callahan) Murphy of Lynn, MA, 1963, a daughter, Laurie Marie (Murphy) (Arbo) and her husband Michael Therrian of N.H.; Grandfather of Joseph Arbo and Alanna Arbo, children of Laurie; brother-in-law of Ruth Brennan of So. Portland, ME and Pat Wyman of Lynn, MA.

Bill was a member of the MA Air Nat’l Guard in 1958-1964 obtaining rank of A2nd as Staff Car Driver for 3 Generals. He was raised as a Master Mason at John Hancock Lodge in Methuen, MA 1976, North Reading Lodge and became Master of Saccarappa Lodge # 86 in Westbrook, ME 2009 and Treasurer 2011. Bill was also a 32nd Degree and Aleppo Temple in 1976. (demit) and Lawrence Lodge of Elks (demit); former member of Gray Snowolves, snowmobile club and member of the Shriners in Wilmington, Mass; and a member of Cumberland Lodge in N. Gloucester.

Bill developed Accounting Practice and was a Public Accountant (licensed) for more than 50 years. At one time was a PA in MA, NH and Maine at the same time. He retired his license after suffering a heart attack. He was also a Notary Public in MA and Maine and former member of Maine Board of Accountancy.

Mr. Murphy was a communicant and usher of St. Gregorys Catholic Church in Gray, ME (Blessed Sacrament Parish)

Besides his brother Ed and other relatives, scattered including Nova Scotia; his extended family include: Pat Angelo of Burlington, MA; Bill and Pat Kelley of Medford, MA; and Jim Pantazelous of Merrimack, NH and other friends.

In 1996, Bill and his wife moved to Gray, Maine where he worked at Maine Credit Union League and joined the Portland, Maine Police FCU in 2003 as a loan officer and became Vice President of Accounting until his retirement in 2014.

A prayer service will be held on Saturday, December 12, 2015 at 3:00 p.m. at the Autumn Green Funeral Home, 47 Oak St., in Alfred, Maine. Following the service, you are invited to visit and enjoy light refreshments with Bill’s family until 5:00 p.m.
