Service Date:

Marion H. (Yates) Rowe, 83, a lifelong resident of Sanford and Springvale, died peacefully on January 6, 2016 at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Marion was born on April 12, 1932 the daughter of Albert and Eva (Robinson) Yates. She attended local schools which included the now retired Emerson School. Early in her marriage to Richard Rowe, she worked in the Goodall Mills before deciding to devote herself to raising their three children. Mrs. Rowe was also a member of the First Baptist Church in Sanford.

Marion very much enjoyed spending her summers at the family camp on Mousam Lake when her children were on their summer break from school. She often mentioned in her later years after the family camp had been long sold that her favorite time at the lake was in the autumn; when the leaves were at their peak color and how peaceful the lake was after the summer residents were gone for the season.

Marion enjoyed working in her beautiful flower gardens. It was during the cold winter holiday season that she loved having family and friends over so she could cook, bake and serve them delicious Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners.

Marion loved all living creatures, large and small, especially cats. Through the years, the cats provided much enjoyment and company throughout her day. They were well loved, nurtured and cared for.

Marion was a wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother who devoted her life to caring for her family. She was also a caregiver to her parents and to her husband Richard, when he was stricken with a serious illness. Marion’s life and her attributes for daily living will be forever cherished and she will be dearly missed.

She is lovingly survived by her two sons, Glenn Rowe of Springvale and Scott Rowe of Sanford; and by her daughter, Brenda Hillsgrove and husband Richard of So. Berwick; her two grandchildren, Telly Hillsgrove of So. Berwick and Kylene Robinson and husband Eric and her son Liam and her stepdaughter, Makenzie, all of Newmarket, NH.

Marion was predeceased by her husband of 42 years, Richard Rowe and by her parents and by her brother, Donald Yates.

A Graveside Service will be held later in the spring at Oakdale Cemetery in Sanford.

The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the staff members of the Sanford Cancer Center for their kindness, care and respect shown to their mother as she battled her cancer.
