Virginia Isabelle Wood– Ginny to her family and many, many friends, left this earth on February 11, 2016 while in the care of Gosnell Hospice and her loving life partner, Nancy Tobin. Ginny came into this world on July 14, 1939; she was 76 years young.
Ginny was a wise woman who could talk about anything from politics to cars and from pastry to preservation. She was an avid birder and as a young woman learned the art of bird-banding. The nomadic Cedar Waxwing always held a powerful meaning for Ginny and I am sure there were Cedar Waxwings lifting her gently toward the light on the evening of her transition.
Ginny was always up for an adventure and left college for a post in Nigeria as part of the US Consulate. It was in this country that Ginny’s gift for listening became most evident. Ginny was a+ 63 natural listener—be it a woman selling fabric on a local street corner or a visiting attaché from a neighboring country. Later in her life, Ginny used these listening skills to help so many women realize their own power to move toward the positive in their lives.
She is survived by her brother, Robert Lloyd of Austin, TX; her life partner, Nancy Tobin and Nancy’s children, Rick Tobin, his wife Jodi and son Max, Laura Ketchum and her sons, Sam, Toby and Nevin of Massachusetts and Trisha, Jack and Brieanna Weston. She also leaves many nieces and nephews.
Ginny’s internment was held at Cedar Brook Burying Ground in Limington with Rev. Lara Campbell guiding the service.
There will be a remembrance and celebration of life for Ginny Wood held at the First Unitarian Universalist Church, 114 Main St., Kennebunk, ME at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, February 14, 2016 with Rev. Lara Campbell officiating.
There will be a short reception following Ginny’s send-off.
Donations can be made to Gosnell Hospice and/or the Kennebunk Animal Shelter. Please mention the other love of her life, Molly Collie, who is probably romping by her side at this very moment if donating to the Kennebunk Animal Shelter. Ginny would like that.
The Autumn Green Funeral Home is respectfully handling arrangements.
