Norma V. Stokes
November 20, 1927 - February 25, 2016
A Graveside Service will be held later this spring at Riverside Cemetery in Springvale and will be announced.
Norma Vose Stokes, 88, died in Ormond Beach, Florida on February 25, 2016. She was born November 20, 1927 in Manchester, NH, the daughter of Alfred and Henrietta (Johnson) Vose.
She graduated from Manchester Central High School in 1945 and Nasson College in 1947. While attending Nasson in Springvale, she met and later married Jarvis “Jack” Stokes.
Norma was the quintessential “homemaker,” cooking, sewing and raising her three children. She lived in Springvale for many years before moving to Newburyport, MA and Portsmouth, NH. She spent summers at Square Pond, and enjoyed annual trips to Daytona Beach where she and her husband eventually retired. Norma loved to laugh and have fun, often sharing in mischief with her kids and friends. Even into her 80’s, she was known to flash a set of “vampire teeth,” and quietly observe the amusement of those around her. She took pride in her daily walks, first at the beach, and later around the campus of her assisted living facility. Special treats were going to Boston Fish for fried haddock, eating ice cream, and receiving news of her children and grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband in 1997, and by her son, David V. Stokes in January 2016. She is survived by a son, John H. Stokes of Derry, NH; a daughter and son-in-law, Eileen and David Heald of Holly Hill, FL; five grandchildren, Zachary (Angie) Stokes of Olmsted Falls, OH; Kristen (Nate) Brooks of Berkeley, CA; Lauren (James) Hatfield of Richmond, CA; Alysha (Adam) Bigelow of Schuylerville, NY and Jessie Stokes of Saratoga Springs, NY; and seven great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held later in the spring at Riverside Cemetery in Springvale and will be announced.
The Autumn Green Funeral Home is respectfully handling arrangements.
