Bruce D. Folsom, age 90, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, April 7, 2017.
Bruce was born on January 12, 1927 in Sanford, Maine, the son of Esther Myrle Dalton and Rodney Gerry Folsom. He attended elementary school in Springvale and graduated from Sanford High School in 1945. He then attended the University of Maine, graduating in 1949 with a degree in Engineering Physics.
Immediately after graduation from the university, Bruce went to work for the Eastman Kodak Company in Rochester, NY, where he worked for 35 years. He started in the Film Testing Division, but spent most of his career in the Film Emulsion Division. He wound up as the Assistant Superintendent of the quality section for all of Kodak’s color film products.
In 1951, Bruce married Louise (Teddy) Powers, from South Portland, who he met in college. After living in the town of Greece, New York for several years, they moved to Honeoye Falls, NY, where Bruce was active in the local Presbyterian Church, Boy Scouts of America and Rotary Club.
Teddy passed away in 1981, and Bruce took an early retirement from Kodak in 1985. Upon his retirement, he returned to Maine and, in 1986, married Mary Dumas, another friend from college. Bruce volunteered his time to the Red Cross, Meals on Wheels, and was active in the Acton Congregational Church.
Bruce loved snow and water skiing, and he and Mary owned a condominium at Sugarloaf for many years. They both skied until they were 80 years old. Bruce also owned a camp on Mousam Lake in Shapleigh, Maine, where he and Mary entertained family and friends every summer.
Bruce is survived by his wife Mary; sons, Steve and Dave; Mary’s sons, Art (Celina), Steve and Greg (Janice); his grandchildren, Sara and Christie Folsom; Lance, John, and Marce, and Cameron and Carolyn Dumas; 5 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. A special thanks to his caregivers, Nicole and Brian and close family friend, Jen.
Bruce was predeceased by his brother, Deane Folsom.
