Jean (Jeannie) L. Boardman

May 18, 1941 - June 21, 2017

Service Date:

A private family service will be held.

Jean L. (Jeannie) Boardman, 76, of Portsmouth, New Hampshire, died on June 21, 2017 following a short illness at the Portsmouth Regional Hospital. Jeannie received love and tender care from her daughter, Diana, with the help and kindness of the nursing staff.

Jean was born in Palmyra, Maine on May 18, 1941 the daughter of Roland and Shirley C. (Neal) Ryder.

Jean has been married 58 years to Sterling E. Boardman and they began their family while living in Massachusetts before calling Portsmouth “home” for the past 30 years. As a younger woman, Jeannie worked as a pharmacy technician, but her first calling was her family. She was happiest to care for her husband, son Vernon and daughter Diana.

Jeannie was a talented and gifted seamstress; making many of the family clothes, baby quilts that were given to new mothers and specialty vests made for a trip to Disney World. (So they could find one another in the crowds – she thought of everything!) She made Renaissance gowns, curtains and banners for the athletic department at Portsmouth Christian School.

Jean could be described as a woman with determination, organizational skills that could rival any event planner! She was the “Mom” to many that visited after school with an open door policy. She even let the neighborhood dog in for “Cheez Its!” Many memories were made on family trips to Palm Beach, California and Tennessee.

Jeannie will be dearly missed by her family and has now entered into eternal peace and rest.

Survivors include her husband Sterling and son Vernon Boardman of Portsmouth, NH; and her daughter Diana Erbach and husband Scott of Rochester, NH; a brother, James Ryder and a special aunt, Blanche Ahern of Corinth, ME and many nieces and nephews. Jean was predeceased by her brother, Jake Ryder.

A private family service will be held.

The Autumn Green Funeral Home is respectfully handling arrangements.
