A Service of Remembrance will be held on September 1, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at St. George's Episcopal Church, 1 Emerson St., in Sanford followed by a luncheon in the St. Elizabeth Hall.

Harriet A. Randall, of Deering Ridge Road in Shapleigh, Maine, passed away on August 18, 2017 at home with her family by her side.

Harriet was born on September 21, 1927 in Alfred, Maine although her residence was in Sanford. The daughter of Henry P. and Mary Acker, she grew up in Sanford/Springvale and graduated from Sanford High School with the class of 1945. Following high school, she attended Gorham State Teachers College and received her degree. She taught in Alfred, ME; Norway, ME and finished her career in Windsor Locks, CT as a high school math teacher.

Harriet and her husband, Cliff Randall, retired to Maine in 1990 where they built a home. They were married in 1948 and recently celebrated 69 years of marriage with their three children, Melissa Gilbert (Daniel) of Windsor Locks, CT, Priscilla Miller (David), of New Bern, NC and Jeffrey Randall (Christine) of Portsmouth, NH.

Harriet is also survived by six grandchildren, David Gilbert, Sara Fox (Seth), Courtney Randall (Kris Wilkes), Kathleen O’Carroll (Emmett), Joseph Randall and Samantha Miller, and five great grandchildren, Evan Gilbert, Liam Gilbert, Elliot Fox, Owen Fox and Scarlett Wilkes.

Harriet is also survived by her brothers, Albert Acker (Beverly) of Bowdoinham and Howard Acker (Marcia) of Acton/Florida. She was predeceased by her parents, Henry and Mary Acker, a sister, Marjorie Lawrence, a brother-in-law, Thomas Randall and sister-in-law Hilda Sorvarl. As Harriet married into a large and loving family, she is survived by many Randall in-laws, including Norman Randall (Jeanne), Wells/ Florida; Muriel Randall, Cumberland Center; Jean Graul, Wells/ Florida; Rita Ross (Richard) Falmouth; Shirley Schmottlach (Bruce), Wells/CT; Robert Randall (Mary Anne), Sanford; Kenneth Randall, Florida and Linda Randall (Lee McMinn) of Brevard, NC.

Harriet and Cliff had lived 35 years in Windsor Locks, CT, where they were very involved in the community. Both were members of the Lions Club and had many friends there.

Harriet was a volunteer advocate and served at the Newton Center, Shapleigh Library, American Red Cross, Goodall Hospital and as a member of both the Sanford Lions Club and the Acton/Shapleigh Lions Club. She served many years with the Lions glass recycling group in Waterboro.

A lifelong Episcopalian, she attended St. John’s, East Windsor, CT and St. George’s, Sanford, serving in many capacities. As per Harriet’s wishes, there will be no visitation hours.

A Service of Remembrance will be held at St. George’s Church, 1 Emerson Street, Sanford, ME, on Friday, September 1, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. followed by a reception in the Parish Hall.

Our thanks go out to the many friends who have called, written and flooded us with food and comfort especially Mary Driscoll. We could not have stayed the course without the spiritual and friendly advice and counsel from Rev. Canon Susan Murphy and finally, the unexpected and overwhelming support from Hospice of Southern Maine.
