Marion E. Gray, 91, a longtime resident and beloved Mother, Grammy and Mee Mee, died peacefully on December 5, 2017 at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough.
Marion was born on April 11, 1926 in Dodsland Saskatchewan, Canada the daughter of Robert and Marion (Collins) McPherson. Marion shared stories of going to school in a horse drawn sleigh and the challenges of growing their own food and harvesting enough wheat to sell.
Marion came to the United States with her husband Warren O. Gray and they worked towards gaining citizenship in the States; working with the Home Steading project. They eventually came to Waterboro after the 1947 fire and together built their home on Main St. They raised three children in a Christian home, with Marion providing love, nurturing and good ole fashioned discipline!
Marion was not only a full time Mom, but she worked many years in the local shoe shops and at Aletta Dress Shop. But, her favorite “job” – was more of a calling for Marion; she began providing homecare to many of her neighbors and friends within her community. Marion possessed a strong faith in her Lord Jesus Christ; serving many years in a variety of leadership roles within her church family. She taught Sunday school, was the church Superintendent and active member of 50 plus years at the South Waterboro Bible Chapel. Marion loved helping with the community luncheons and in her younger years was part of the Rebekah’s in East Waterboro.
For relaxation Marion enjoyed sewing and knitting and being home with her family. During the summer months she and Warren would take the kids for a trip down to the Seashore Trolley Museum in Kennebunkport. Each year she looked forward to spending Christmas morning with the little ones as they eagerly opened their presents.
Marion was loved and cherished by her family. As her health began to decline, together as a family they provided care and comfort as she crossed from this life to the next. From humbled beginnings, Marion lived a full and rewarding life; sharing her faith in the Lord and serving others.
She is lovingly survived by her son, Raymond L. Gray of Waterboro; her daughter, Corinne F. Moulton and husband Ken of Sanford; her three grandchildren, Tracy, Stephanie and Paul Gray; and two great grandchildren, Christopher Burbank and “Little” Tim Caldwell.
Marion was predeceased by her husband of 37 years, Warren O. Gray in 1983; by her son, Earl R. Gray in Gray in 2016 and her daughter-in-law, Brenda Gray in 2017.
