A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, December 15, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at St. George's Episcopal Church in Sanford, Maine. Committal prayers and military honors will be at Southern Maine Veterans Cemetery, 83 Stanley Rd., in Springvale. Following the interment, you are invited to visit with Richard's family and enjoy a luncheon at Autumn Green Funeral Home, 47 Oak St., in Alfred.
Richard Almon Blaisdell, 69, of Acton, died on December 10, 2017 at his home surrounded by family.
Richard was born January 3, 1948 in Skowhegan, the only child of Richard E. and Phyllis (Macklen) Blaisdell. Richard’s father was in the military which allowed him to grow-up in multiple places around the world. Of note, he lived in Japan, Germany, Maryland and graduated from Kubasaki High School in Okinawa.
After high school, Richard enlisted in the United States Army as a Computer/Machine Operator. He served two tours of service in Vietnam in 1968-1969 and 1970 and was awarded the Bronze Star Medal and the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry. In January 1970, Richard met his soulmate, the former Deborah Follansbee of Lancaster, Massachusetts and they were soon married. After his service in Vietnam, Richard continued his military career in the Army and they lived in Honolulu, Hawaii, Atlanta Georgia, Colorado Springs, Colorado, Heidelberg Germany; Indianapolis, Indiana, Frankfurt Germany, and Fort Devens Massachusetts. Richard retired from Active Duty on August 1, 1986 and he and Deborah along with their four children made their home in Lee, New Hampshire.
While raising their children, Richard found work as a computer systems operator for the Digital Corporation and then as a Supervisory Passport Specialist for the United States State Department where he retired after working for 18 years. After their youngest child graduated from high school, Richard and Deborah moved to their eventual retirement home in Acton, Maine.
Richard enjoyed playing golf, watching sports, traveling with his wife and spending time with his four children and five grandchildren.
Richard is survived by his wife of 47 years, Deborah Blaisdell, his daughters: Charlene Blaisdell of Dover, New Hampshire; Alisha Cochrane and her husband James of Acton: his sons: MAJ Jarrod Blaisdell and his wife Jessica of Killeen, Texas; Christopher Blaisdell and his wife Natasha of South Berwick; and his five grandchildren: Tyler Muscovitz, Abigail Muscovitz, Zachariah Blaisdell, Mason Blaisdell, and Gabriel Blaisdell.
