Graciano Rodriguez, 79, died at his home in Lyman on July 11, 2018.

Graciano was born on December 18, 1938, in Santa Margarita, Texas, the son of Juan and Teodora (Sanchez) Rodriguez. He lived with his family in Texas until he was seven years old, when his family moved to California. At the age of 18, Graciano enlisted into the U. S. Army and then transferred into the U. S. Air Force where he served with distinction during the Korean Conflict and in Vietnam. He retired in 1979, with the rank of TSgt.

Following his military career, Graciano went to work for Pratt-n-Whitney in No. Berwick and enjoyed the comradery with his co-workers; retiring from full-time work in 2000. He and his wife Gerti P. (Rowe) Rodriguez enjoyed living near the ocean in York. After battling too many Nor Easters’ – both he and Gerti moved inland to their beautiful home in Lyman. They bought a cottage on Sebago Lake and spent many happy hours with their “children” – a pair of Pekingese dogs, Aniken and Gabrielle. It was common knowledge that the dogs ate the very best cuts of meat and Graciano put in central air conditioning for his babies. When not puttering around his yard, Graciano loved to hit the links; playing a round of golf always included good fun, food and being out with his friends.

Graciano had a special blessing happen in 1997- he reconnected with his daughter- Orencia! He would share freely with his family and friends that knowing he had a daughter was the BEST thing to happen in his life. He welcomed her with open arms. In doing so, he was affectionately named Chano by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Graciano lived a long and fruitful life. . . He was devoted to his family, served his country with pride, and held fast to his faith that he was taught as a youngster, so many years ago. He will be dearly missed by his daughter and her family and his neighbors.

Graciano is lovingly survived by his daughter, Orencia Usabel and husband Dragan; his three grandchildren, Vojin Alexander Margaranovic Rodriquez, Gloria Margaranovic Rodriquez, Lorena Bisevac Rodriquez; his three great-grandchildren, Cristina Martinez Margaranovic, Alexander Valvede Margaranovic, and Ivan Margaranovic Samper.

A Prayer Service will be held on Monday, July 16, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at the Autumn Green Funeral Home, 47 Oak St., in Alfred. Committal prayers with military honors will be held later in York.
