To honor Lillian's life, a private graveside service will be held

Lillian E. (Goodwin) Hanson, 79, of Dayton, passed away peacefully on September 20, 2018, surrounded by her loving family.

Lillian was born in Somerville, Massachusetts on March 3, 1939, the daughter of Chapman B. and Lillian E. (Kaler) Goodwin. Lillian grew up in Hollis and was raised by her grandmother, Isabell West.

On November 1, 1959, Lillian married the love of her life, Joseph S. Hanson and together they raised five children. Lillian worked in the service industry most of her life; one of her passions was helping people, whether it was working for RCCA or distributing surplus food to families that needed a helping hand. She also worked at Pineland Institute where she lovingly cared for and spent extra time with her adult clients. Lillian had a lifelong history of volunteering, whether being a Den Mother when she was younger or spending years with the Meals on Wheels organization. Even after retirement, Lillian remained active volunteering and sharing her time and talents with others.

Lillian had many interests which she shared with her five children including; fishing, archery, gardening, crocheting, knitting, and various craft projects. Lillian loved spoiling her cat Max with special treats and food. His love and affection provided many happy hours of companionship.

Lillian is survived by her five children; Joseph S. Hanson and wife Nancy of Hollis; Victor A. Hanson and wife Penny of Parsonsfield; Bonita R. LaChance and husband Larry of Dayton; Steven W. Hanson and wife Sandy of Gorham; and Cheryl McIlwain and husband Mark of Portland; her grandchildren, Jessica, Danielle, Erik, Fernando, Kyle, Levi, Neil, Amanda, Victor, Cheryl and Tristan; and her great-grandchildren, Johnathan, Lillian, Tracy, Abigail, Eleanor and Abram. She will be dearly missed by all.

Lillian was predeceased by her parents, Chapman B. and Lillian E. Goodwin, her husband, Joseph S. Hanson and her life-long best friend, Audrey-Anne Libby.

To honor Lillian’s life, a private graveside service will be held.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Lillian’s memory may be made to the Animal Refuge League of Greater Portland, 449 Stroudwater St., Westbrook, ME 04092.
