Phyllis C. Elliott, 90, a longtime resident and beloved mother and grandmother, died peacefully and surrounded in love by her family on October 28, 2019 at the Newton Center in Sanford.
Phyllis graduated from Sanford High School at the age of 16 and worked in the mills before she could attend nursing school two years later, at the age of 18. Phyllis was a well-liked and dedicated nurse who worked in the ER and on the maternity ward for over 30 plus years. She often worked the second shift so she could keep her active household running on time.
Phyllis married Eric (Stubby) Elliott, Jr. on August 16, 1952 and together they welcomed into their home and hearts eight children. They attended St. Ignatius Church and raised their children in the church and made sure they attended Catholic schools. Phyllis was very active in the church choir and enjoyed taking Bible studies classes to enrich her faith journey.
Phyllis was a very hard worker who dedicated herself to caring for others. She was known as the disciplinarian in the family, if the kids wanted to “get away” with something – They always went to Dad! Both she and Eric would make sure the kids had what they needed and they made Christmas a special, magical time with loads of presents under the tree.
Phyllis and Eric were active members of the Elks Club. They often traveled for the club and Phyllis was a devoted member for over 40 plus years. She believed in giving back to her community that she called home.
She has been reunited with the love of her life, her husband Eric, her son, Michael and grandson David, and her sister Marilyn Samuelson. She has entered into eternal peace.
Phyllis is lovingly survived by her children: Lynne Ouellette, Karen Bruno, Jeanne Raine, John Elliott, Lois Boulay, Cathee Elliott, and Clair Silke; her 17 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren, her two sisters, Barbara Hughes and Shirley Turner; and several nieces and nephews.
