Fay J. Haberland, 78, of Sanford, died on November 25, 2019, surrounded in love by her family, at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough.

Fay was born on February 8, 1941 in Sanford, the daughter of Ralph and Alice (Beal) Goodwin.

Fay was a graduate of Sanford High School and worked for Hannaford’s in Sanford. Fay was a dedicated employee and worked many extra hours to save enough money to purchase lettered jackets with the Massabesic High School logo for her kids. She was a blessing to her children, supportive; but was known to be strict when she had to be! Fay was always there for her kids and never missed an event for her grandchildren. She even taught her granddaughters the fine art of knitting.

Fay loved to host the family holiday dinners; where she was known to enjoy homemade fudge, peanut M&M’s, raisins and chocolate covered cherries. She also enjoyed watching the New England Patriots and playing Bingo, as well as the excursions to Foxwood. Fay was a loyal and fun friend to have.

Fay and her husband Robert were missionaries for many years in Africa, Russia, Ukraine, India and Romania. She attended New Life Church and Curtis Lake. Fay’s life was sustained daily with her faith in Jesus and the Bible studies she attended with her church family. She has now been called to her eternal home in Heaven and is at peace. Fay and Robert enjoyed 36 years of marriage before his passing in 2017.

Fay is lovingly survived by her children, Kathy Proto and husband Ray of Sanford; Robin Watson of Springvale; Lorie Guertin of Shapleigh; Terri Crosby and husband Russ of Sanford; Robert Haberland of Stratham, NH and Jane Simpson of Dublin, NH. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Ashley Letourneau, Bethany Dymond, Faith Ridley, Derek Guertin, Danielle Watson, Kayla Guertin, Jacob Crosby, Rebekah Watson, Hannah Crosby and Paige Simpson; her great-grandchildren, Adrien, Dylan, Devin, Mason, Paisley and Lidia; also by two brothers, Melton Goodwin and Dana Goodwin and wife Joyce.

A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, December 5, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at New Life Church in Biddeford.

Burial will be at the So. Maine Veterans Cemetery in Springvale.

In lieu of flowers and with Fay’s generous heart, please bring a canned food item to help families during the holiday season to her service.

The Autumn Green Funeral Home is respectfully handling arrangements.
