Gloria I. Hussey, 70, a loving wife and mother, died January 2, 2020 at Southern Maine Medical Center in Biddeford.
Gloria was born in Sanford on December 18, 1949, the daughter of Raymond and Barbara (Leach) Drown. She grew up with three sisters and one brother in Alfred. Being the eldest child, she often was the babysitter for her younger siblings and they spent many happy times together playing cards and board games.
Gloria married Nelson Hussey, Sr., on October 17, 1969 at the little church on Gore Road, and they have been soulmates and best friends for close to 50 years. They welcomed into their hearts and home two children, Nelson Jr. and Tammy. Gloria loved being a wife and mother. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed dancing to country-n-western music. She was a fierce competitor when she played cards, Yahtzee or watching the Wheel of Fortune. For many years, Gloria was a member of the ladies bowling league.
Gloria would take a respite each day as she followed her soap operas, ‘The Days of our Lives’ and ‘As the World Turns’ – when Nelson was home, he’d even sit down and watch them with her. She and Nelson complimented one another and fit together like “two peas in a pod.” They made wonderful memories together with their children snowmobiling and camping. Gloria always had an open heart when it came to animals; especially cats and dogs.
Gloria has now entered into eternal rest. She will be dearly missed and forever loved by her family and many friends.
She is lovingly survived by her husband, Nelson Hussey, Sr. and her son, Nelson, Jr. of Springvale; her daughter Tammy Hussey of Dover, NH; her mother, Barbara Leach of Alfred; her three sisters, Susan Lewis and husband Michael of Midland, Texas; Debbie Travis of No. Berwick and Gail Ouellette and Ron of Alfred; her sister-in-law Bernice Drown of Springvale and many nieces, nephews and family members for the Hussey side.
Gloria was predeceased by her father Raymond Drown, her brother Montgomery Drown, and two nephews, Lance Laskey and Brandon Ouellette.
