Joyce Nanchy Sobanik

Joyce Nanchy Sobanik, 92, of Sanford, Maine died peacefully on Wednesday, March 18, 2020.
Joyce was born on August 24th, 1927 in Bridgeport, Connecticut, the only child of Bertram Nanchy and Julia (Palfy) Nanchy. In 1945 Joyce graduated from Stratford (CT) High School, and worked at Coastal Machine Works, as a draftsperson, U.S. Motors as a secretary, and later as a bookkeeper at Valley Container Company. Joyce married her soul mate and sweetheart Frank J. Sobanik in 1953 and made their home in Connecticut. Together, they nurtured and loved three sons; John, Bert, and William. Joyce was a dedicated mother and homemaker, and taught her sons to be independent.
She and Frank loved big band music and were ballroom dancers into their 80’s. In retirement they traveled extensively, visiting Europe, Australia, Chile, Hawaii, and other exotic destinations. In 2010 Joyce and Frank moved to Maine to be closer to sons and grandchildren. They spent many happy hours at the Trafton Senior Center in Sanford, making new friends, dancing, and enjoying a game of cards. She had a full and active life.
She is survived by her three sons; John Sobanik and wife Lauren Olshesky of Colchester, Connecticut; Bert Sobanik and wife Nancy of Lyman; and William (Bill) Sobanik of Lyman; grandchildren, James and Katherine Sobanik of Lyman. She joins Frank, her husband of 65 years, who predeceased her in 2018.
