James (Jim) Soucy, 60, a longtime resident of Sanford, passed peacefully with his family by his side, on June 19, 2020 at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough.
Jim was born in Canada and was raised in Van Buren, attending local schools and was a graduate of Van Buren High School. In 1980, Jim moved south to the Sanford area and began working in the local shoe shops. He soon began his Dry Wall/Sheet rocking business and was well respected in his field.
Jim married Kathleen Roberge and they have shared 39 years together and welcomed two sons, Daniel and Brian into their hearts and home. Jim could be strict with the boys as they grew up, but he wanted them to learn life lessons and to always show respect and love towards their mother. He enjoyed being at home sitting out on his deck. Some of his favorite television shows included Westerns, Science Fiction shows and documentary’s on World War II. Jim loved to ride his motorcycle when he was younger and each year he looked forward to trips to Old Orchard Beach and ordering the infamous Pier Fries!
Jim was a well-respected fire fighter with the Shapleigh and Lebanon Fire Departments for over 20 years. He loved being with his buddies on the departments and mentored many junior fire fighters. Jim looked forward to his morning coffee with his cronies at Dunkin Donuts in Sanford. Jim also worked as a D.J. playing a variety of music for their annual Halloween night and for many wedding receptions, graduations and dances.
Jim’s illness was brief, but we know he is at peace and we will miss him dearly. Rest easy and you will never be forgotten.
Jim is lovingly survived by his wife, Kathleen Soucy of Sanford; his two sons, Daniel Soucy and partner Jessica Elskamp of Sanford and Brian Soucy and wife Andrea of Standish; his granddaughter Jasmine Soucy who loved her Pepe; and his sister Lisa Taggart of Frenchville; and several nieces and nephews, and many other extended family members.
