Rachel L. Martin, 64, beloved wife, mother and grandmother, died in the comfort of her home and surrounded by family after a long illness on August 10, 2020 in Sanford.

Rachel was born into a family of 10 children in Sanford on November 29, 1955, to Andre and Jeanette (Dion) Guillemette. She graduated from Sanford High School with the Class of 1975.

Rachel was highly creative, dabbling in many different crafts, including scrapbooking and cake decorating. Her true passion, though, was quilting. Her quilts were labors of love, given to her family and closest friends, or donated to her favorite charities. Quilting became more than just a hobby, creating lifelong friendships, and sending her on trips around Maine to go on “shop hops” with her girlfriends. She was also a patient teacher, helping others also become avid sewers and quilters.

Rachel was diagnosed with Pulmonary Fibrosis nearly a decade ago. As devastating as the diagnosis was, she never let it stop her from doing the things she loved, like baking and sewing and shopping for gifts for loved ones. She cherished every opportunity to spend time with friends and family, especially during the holidays.

Rachel was a deeply caring person, not just for her children and grandchildren, but also for their loved ones, and even her own caregivers. Even her final days, she made sure her nurses and aides were taken care of, offering drinks and snacks from her hospital bed.

Anyone knew Rachel knew that her personality filled the room. She had the biggest heart, always putting others first. She will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved her.

Rachel is survived by her loving husband of 44 years, Craig S. Martin of Sanford; her children and their spouses: Bethany Cucinelli and her husband Mark and their two children, Giavana and Gavin; David Martin and his wife Crystal; and Karin Martin and her husband Victor Leblanc and their son, Simon; her brothers and sisters: Irene Plante, Michael Guillemette, Ronald Guillemette, Elaine Conley, Pauline Capen, Diane Rouillard, John Guillemette and Roland Guillemette; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her infant daughter, Melissa Martin, her mother and father, Andre Guillemette and Jeanette (Dion) Guillemette, and her brother, Gerard Guillemette.
