It is with heavy hearts, our family is sharing the passing of our loved sister Joan Gauthier on Sunday, August 16, 2020. Joan recently lost her beloved husband of 63 years Paul Gauthier. She was adored by all of us, capturing our hearts with her fun-loving spirit and charm.
She wore many hats in her lifetime working in manufacturing, gardening, and retail. Joan also was an active member of North Congregational Church of Kennebunkport, teaching children’s religious classes, and volunteering at church events.
Joan enjoyed spending time with her family and friends and was a longtime resident and active community member of Keywood Manor Village. She started the Ladies’ Luncheon social and founded the Knitting Angels. The Angels knitted and crocheted fifty-six blankets and quilts that were donated to the local Maine chapter of the Linus project.
Among her many talents Joan enjoyed sewing, knitting, needlepoint, and gardening. She shared her passions for these things with anyone who had an interest.
Her sister Nancy proudly remembers, Joanie sewing a prom dress for her and friends loving it and asking where she bought it, while her sister Jeanie recalls, Joan and Paul opening their home to her when she had nowhere else to live and sister Suzie fondly recollects Joanie nursing her back to good health after falling ill. While her many nieces and nephews’ memories will be forever touched by her zest and joy of life, sharp wit and sheer happiness that always brightened their days.
Joan was born November 27, 1935 in Lowell, Massachusetts. She was predeceased by her loved father, Joseph LaJoie and mother, Thelma Mertrud, her sister Ellen Kolios, brothers, Joseph LaJoie Jr., and Larry LaJoie and most recently by her loving husband Paul Gauthier. Joan is genuinely loved and missed, by her surviving sisters Nancy Whiting, Jean Luce, and Susan Frappier and her many nieces and nephews.
Family and Friends will miss Joan’s generous love, can do spirit, gifts of joy, and charm.
