Vera Ann Parker, 79, loving wife, mother and special grammie, passed peacefully on November 15, 2020 at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough.

Vera was born on November 7, 1941 in Sanford, the daughter of Herbert D. and Helen Hill. She was brought up in North Shapleigh and was a graduate of Sanford High School.

Vera married her soulmate and best friend, Gordon J. Parker, on September 1, 1962. Together they welcomed into their heart and home three children, Aaron, Rhonda, and Bridget. They all worked together on the farm and Vera was hard at work in the kitchen, canning and preserving the bountiful harvests each year. She maintained an open house policy; you could drop by for a visit and a cup of coffee. She always had a sweet for you, whether it was homemade donuts, cookies, or a piece of pie. Vera was a well-known collector of many treasures and enjoyed going out to breakfast with her fellow classmates.

With Vera’s outgoing personality and sense of humor, she entertained and demonstrated Friendly Home Party products. She was also very active in the North Shapleigh Free Will Church as their secretary and treasurer. But, first and foremost, she was a tireless homemaker who loved being a Grammy – Her grandkids were the “Light of her life!” Vera enjoyed traveling and attending Blue Grass Festivals, trips to Florida and Tennessee. Special memories were made when she went to Branson, Missouri three times with her family. She loved living in the country and being close to her siblings and their families.

Vera was a strong and independent woman, with blue, blue eyes that radiated warmth, mischief, and kindness. For the past five years, her main caregiver was her husband Gordon. Truly a love that has been tested with time, yet never waned. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends. Until we see you again. . . We love you and rest in peace.

Vera is lovingly survived by her husband of 58 years, Gordon J. Parker, her three children Aaron B. Parker and wife Linda, Rhonda L. Burnell, and Bridget M. Lister and husband Scott; her four grandchildren, Amanda Parker, Joe Parker, Ashley Lister, and Jordan Lister; her siblings, Myrtle Howard, Brentwood Hill and wife Becky, and Carolyn Howard and husband Stephen; seven nephews and two nieces.

She was predeceased by her infant brother Wayne Hill, and by her brother-in-law Bird Howard, and two nephews Albert Howard and Kenny Johnson.

A private graveside service will be held at the family’s request.
