Irene L. Hussey

A period of visitation followed by a graveside service will be held in the spring at Evergreen Cemetery in Alfred.
Irene L Hussey, 80, of Alfred, passed away on January 15th, 2021, at Southern Maine Healthcare in Biddeford.
Irene was born on July 27, 1940 in Sanford, the daughter of Albert and Sophie (Grimes) Lessard.
She graduated from Sanford High School in 1958 and shortly thereafter went to work for Cyro Industries where she worked for 37 years.
Throughout her career, Irene was known to be a perfectionist and always took great pride in her work.
She married her husband Tom on February 15, 1974. They lived in Springvale where they raised Irene’s three children, Shelia, Scott, and Donna.
Irene was also a devoted grandmother and great-grandmother to her six grandchildren and three greatgrandchildren.
She was especially known for making exceptional grilled cheese sandwiches, which
Irene and Tom eventually moved to Alfred, where they had a small farm. Irene loved caring for the animals, especially her dog, Buddy, and pony, Champion. Later in life, they both enjoyed traveling.
They often went camping and took trips with their motorhome. Irene was also an avid country music lover.
She especially loved Luke Bryan and attended two of his concerts in the last few years.
Irene was the strongest woman around. She successfully battled cancer on three separate occasions, twice with breast cancer and more recently with nasopharyngeal cancer.
She is predeceased by her parents Albert and Sophie Lessard.
Irene is survived by her dog, Buddy, and husband of 47 years, Tom, of Alfred; daughter Donna Nadeau and partner Peter of Sanford; son Scott Hussey and wife Carol of Shapleigh; daughter Shelia Goode of Sanford; as well as her favorite grandchildren, Mark, Jessica, and Danielle.
