Service Date:

A Graveside Service will be held later in the spring, followed by a celebration of Scott's life.

Scott A. Libby, 55, a devoted, son and husband, nurturing father, and wonderful brother, died from Covid-19 on February 27, 2021 at Maine Medical Center in Portland. Though his physical body succumbed to this virus – his heart and will to live was unwavering.

Scott was born in Portland on April 6, 1965, the son of William L. and Patricia A. (Norberg) Libby Sr. He grew up in Portland and was a graduate of Portland High School, Class of 1983.

Scott began his career in 1985, on the third shift at Jordan’s Meats as part of the cleaning crew. He was a dedicated employee who loved his job and his co-workers. Scotty was in his early 20’s when he suffered a traumatic injury to his left hand (he was also left-handed) and spent endless months working with therapists to regain strength and independence. He was immensely proud of “working up the ladder” and became a cooker of meats in the company. Scott worked there until 2005.

In 1989, Scotty’s dad passed. The family was shaken, and it was Scott who stepped to the plate and bought his mom and sister a home. It has been said, “Scotty would always take care of his mother and he always has.”

Scott received his CDL license and drove trucks for a while. He worked for several years at Maine Medical Center with the Environmental Services Department. With his kind and calming manner, it was easy to be Scott’s co-worker. He also worked for Port Resources, working with adults with special needs to live independently and thrive in their communities. To help with getting as many as possible tested for Covid-19, he worked at Abbott Laboratory.

Scott was thrilled and “over the moon” when he became a Dad to William, his 19-year-old son. His son was raised by Scotty and his close-knit family. Scott felt so blessed and proud to be with his daughter Heather when she gave birth to Sebastian, his grandson. Love opened his heart again when he met Kim. They shared a home together in Hollis. After being together for three years, they married on July 15, 2019.

Scott and Kim loved children and animals. They adopted Fletcher, (a big dog who thinks he is a lap dog) through the Paws & Stripes program. He and Kim took several Caribbean cruises where they witnessed the Big Fish of the seas, Whales, and playful Dolphins alongside the ship. Scotty would pay the cabbies to take him to the countryside where the island families worked and lived. He paid them to cook a meal with fresh fruits, vegetables, and exotic food. His heart appreciated the simplicity of Island living. He also loved his weekly Sushi dinners, and many memories were made with their vacations in Belize.

Scott was an honorable man who loved his family, shared his talents and heart with many, and was selfless to those he loved and cared for. He will be dearly missed by his family and many friends.

He is lovingly survived by his wife, Kim McDonough of Hollis; son William Libby of Hollis; daughter Heather Musgrove and grandson Sebastian of Portland; Mother Patricia Libby of Gorham; brother William L. Libby, Jr. of Sebago; sisters Susan A. Melcher of Pownal and Wendy L. LaPierre of Limerick. Also, Kim’s children, Erin McDonough of Danville, NH; Patrick McDonough of Portland; Kevin McDonough of Gray; Jack McDonough of Portland; and Meaghan Gregg of Fort Benning, Georgia; and many nieces and nephews.

Scott was predeceased by his father, William L. Libby, Sr. in 1989.

A Graveside Service will be held later in the spring followed by a celebration of Scott’s life.
