A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on May 20, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at the Saint Therese of Lisieux Parish in Sanford followed by a graveside service and burial at St. Ignatius Cemetery in Sanford.
Doris R. Cantin, 89, of Sanford, passed away on March 20, 2021 at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough.
Doris was born on August 9, 1931, the daughter of Emile and Annie (Cloutier) Ruel.
She is predeceased by her husband Joseph Cantin; son Thomas Cantin; parents Emile Ruel and Annie Ruel Leblanc; sister Lorette Dubois Chevalier many brothers and sister in laws.
While attending a local dance Doris met her true love Joseph and on April 23, 1948 the lovely couple were married.
Once all children were in school Doris decided to go back to work as a cook and teacher’s aide for Head Start. This led her to start college to obtain a Degree in Education, graduating in 1977.
As Doris remained busy raising her family; teaching and valued her volunteer work, she enjoyed the quiet time while tending to her flower garden.
While enjoying retirement Doris and her husband Joseph traveled for many years. It was during their traveling adventures that the couple decided to forgo Maine winters and enjoy the warmth of Gulf Shores, AL, putting their feet in the warm sand and worshiping the sunshine.
Doris’s faith was especially important to her; she worshiped at the Saint Therese of Lisieux Parish in Sanford where she was a Eucharistic Minister and attended bible studies.
Doris enjoyed cooking and baking every Sunday, and especially during the holidays when her friends and large family would gather. It was during these times that she enjoyed singing and harmonizing with her sister Lorette and dancing up a storm.
A talented seamstress Doris frequently made herself a new outfit for every Saturday night dance she, and her husband attended; she would also sew many outfits for her family; often the boys had matching shirts and the girl’s lovely coats and dresses.
Doris is lovingly survived by her two sons, Michael Cantin of Marietta Ga; Robert Cantin and his wife Deborah of Sanford; two daughters Elaine Beauchesne of Sanford and Carol Hooper and her husband James of Aspen, CO; grand children Christopher and his wife Katie of Woodstock, Ga; Toryann and her husband Jed Colby of Edgecomb, ME; Thomas Beauchesne of Lebanon, ME; Zachary Beauchesne and wife Sara Beckwith of Broomfield, CO; Amber Cantin and fiancée Ryan Andela of Sanford; great grand children Lucy, Keegan, Charles, Henry, Hannah, Jason, and two new arrivals a great grandson due mid-August and great granddaughter due early June.
Doris was a light and a blessing to all that knew and loved her, especially her family.
