Service Date: June 15, 2021

A period of visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 15, 2021 from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm at the Autumn Green Funeral Home, 47 Oak Street, Alfred, Maine followed by a 1:00 pm graveside service at the Pine Grove Cemetery in Waterboro.

Don Turner, Jr., beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend left this world on May 28, 2021, after valiantly fighting a lengthy illness.

Don was a 1961 graduate of Sanford High School. He served as a clerk for the Sanford Call Fire Department where he responded to alarms when needed and was instrumental in the reorganization of the Sanford Call Fire Department. Don was employed for almost a decade at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in Kittery, earning his degree as a Mechanical Engineering Technician in design work. His pursuit for personal growth led him to leave the shipyard and take courses in real estate sales. In 1974 he founded Turner Realty, and then later teamed up with Century 21 to serve the York County community. Don also served as chairman of Sanford’s planning board, and at age 34, while growing his real estate business with great success, was named Jaycees outstanding young man of 1977. In 1978 he became the president of the York County Board of Realtors, performing his duties as a conscientious professional.

In his leisure time, Don enjoyed spending time working on race cars with his late brother Bobby Turner. Together they spent many fun hours chatting over all things racing. Later in his life, he enjoyed serving as the Maine Vintage Race Car Association President. At age 72, with much prompting from his wife Sally, he decided to fully retire, affording him more time to spend with his family and to enjoy his passion for collecting and restoring antique cars. Most of all, Don enjoyed his bright orange 1976 Chevy Corvette that he purchased in 1977, which, NEVER EVER was driven in inclement weather, nor until the roads were swept of winter dirt before taking it out for a fun day in the sun.

Don will always be remembered for his joy, laughter, humor, and his love for life. He will be forever missed by Sally Turner, his wife of 40 years, his daughter Christine DeJesus and husband Steve DeJesus, his son Michael Turner and wife Rebecca Turner, his daughter Susan Nolin, his stepson Matthew Paré and wife Tanya Paré, and stepdaughter Jessica Zollver and husband Zak Zollver, and his nine grandchildren. He will also be missed by his sister Constance Gerry and husband Robert Gerry, sister Helen Hanson, sister-in-law Ann Turner, and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Rest in peace, my love!
