Michele Irene Palmer nee Roderick of West Newfield, Maine, formerly of Reading, MA, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on June 17th following a 3-year battle with ovarian cancer. She fought her battle with courage and ferocity. Michele was a proud teamster’s daughter who honored the Belgian and Portuguese heritage of her parents Marcelle (Charleroi, Belgium) and Alfred Roderick (Somerville, MA). She grew up visiting family in Belgium, spoke fluent French, and cherished the story of her parents’ World War II romance.  She moved to West Newfield in 1978 where she donated time as a volunteer EMT. She would lend a listening ear to anyone looking for an understanding soul. Her quick, wry sense of humor never failed to brighten the darkest moods. Her calm, graceful, nature would quell sadness and distress. She brightened many lives through her artisanal craft work and her participation in the crafting community. Many a small child or a cold dog are kept warm with her woolen wares.

Michele and her husband were deeply thankful for the care she received at Maine Medical Center IV Therapy in Sanford. Her caregivers quickly became extended family. She shared laughter, tears, and baby sweaters with the staff as anyone would with their closest family and friends.

Michele loved unconditionally and did not tolerate injustice or unfairness. By her example she taught others, especially her children, how to live with integrity, to laugh, and to love one another with acceptance and forgiveness. She passed away on her own terms and in her own home, a mother and wife cared for by her children, husband, and close friends while looking out at the lake, listening to the loons, with the bear watching over her.

To those who knew her and were not able to see her in her final days, know that she was grateful for all of her friends and family and for all of the wonderful memories. Those left behind to cherish her life include: daughter and best friend Evan Adler & her husband Torey & their children Lillian and Sam, devoted son Adam King & his wife Monique, loving husband Retired Beverly Fire Captain Bruce Palmer, step-daughter Staci Pender & her children Reece & Abbie & grandson Charlie, step-daughter Keri Dow & her husband Chad & daughter Kaylee, and father of Evan and Adam, Richard King.

To our Mom, Wife, Naynay, and friend we say see you later. We love you and miss you.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Autismspeaks.org or the Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital.
