Obituary written by Richard Samuelson.

Home at last as they say where all is well in every way.  This world that’s in turmoil in every way, he’s watching it go astray day after day. I prayed day after day they would see his light shine bright in Satan’s dark world.

I was the oldest of three siblings, born in Tacoma, Washington. We moved to Seattle area in 1953 from Stayton, Oregon where I finished all my schooling and graduated in 1961.

In late August of 1960, my last year of high school I had the desire to enlist in the US Navy reserves, asking for parent’s approval I was sworn in on 1960 at the naval station in Seattle Washington.

After basic training in Great Lakes Illinois, I was stationed on the USS Carter Hall LSD 3, an amphibious vessel to haul marines and their mobile vehicles.

Discharged from active duty in August 1963, I married my first wife and mother of our four children in November 1963.  We moved to White Center Washington in June of 1964 where I started my career at Boeing Company retiring in 2005 as a process engineer.

During those years, we raised four children, our daughter Tammie, and three sons; Richard D., Clayton and Jason.

So, here at last after two major back operation in 2011 and 2021, I moved to Maine in July 2013 to start a new chapter in my life, in the beginning living with my daughter and son in law in Kennebunk.

After some much-needed physical therapy, I ventured out and met Yvonne in August of 2014, (and her dog Buddy, who adopted me).

After a short courtship, we married in March 2015.

With her, I finally found out what real love was like.

Richard is survived by his brother, James D. Samuelson of University Place, WA; daughter Tammie L. Walsh and her husband Robert of Kennebunk; sons, Richard D. Samuelson of Puallup, Washington; Clayton L. Samuelson and Jason D. Samuelson of Graham, Washington; six grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.

He is preceded by his parents, Clayton H. and Lillian F. (Ross) Samuelson; sister, Karen Sivula; great grandson Hunter J. Sharp and his wife Yvonne Turner Samuelson.

A private family service will be held at the Autumn Green Funeral Home, 47 Oak Street, Alfred on Thursday, August 19, 2021, at 9:30, followed by a public grave side service with full military honors at Southern Maine Veterans Cemetery, 83 Stanley Road, Springvale at 11:00 am.

The Autumn Green is honored to be serving Mr. Samuelson’s family during this difficult time.
