Robert T. O’Keefe, 79, of North Waterboro, Maine, died peacefully on Thursday, August 19, 2021 at the Gosnell House Hospice, after a fall and a long battle with Alzheimer’s Disease.
He was born in New Haven, CT, the son of Lawrence P. O’Keefe and Helen McGarry O’Keefe. He is survived by his beloved wife Jean and by his seven sons Michael O’Keefe (Briana), Ian O’Keefe, Kevin O’Keefe (Megan), Francis Miniter (Melissa), Christian Miniter (Mikal Lynn), Brendan Miniter and Kevin Miniter. In addition, he is survived by 15 grandchildren (Ian, Khloe, Liam, Natalie, Bentley, Harper and Emerson O’Keefe, Taylor, Kaitlyn, Kayla, Logan, Kevin Miniter, Miranda Gilson, Caden Thibodeau and Joseph Trick), and one great-grandchild. He is also survived by his sister Carol (Paul) Hanley, sister-in-law Barbara Bishop O’Keefe and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. O’Keefe was predeceased by his brother Lawrence C. O’Keefe.
After graduating from Colgate University, Bob went on to earn his master’s degree in clinical psychology and counseling from St. Lawrence University and spent the next 5 years working in New York and Connecticut. He then entered the insurance business where he spent the next 29 years, retiring in 2007 as Vice President responsible for the recruitment and training of field managers throughout North America for the Knights of Columbus Insurance. He lived since then with his wife at their home on Lake Arrowhead in southern Maine, where he enjoyed boating and swimming, with his many grandchildren. In retirement, he was very involved with the Alzheimer’s Association of Maine and served on the national board of the Alzheimer’s Association.
A graveside service will be held at St. Peter’s Cemetery in Danbury, Connecticut on Tuesday, October 12th at 11:00 am.
