A Graveside Service with military honors will be December 3, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. at the So. Maine Veterans Cemetery, 83 Stanley Rd., in Springvale.

Carrolous W. Verrill, Jr., 89, a longtime and beloved member of the Shapleigh community, passed peacefully on November 26, 2021 at the Maine Veterans Home in Scarborough.

Carrolous was born in Biddeford on October 4, 1932, the son of Carrolous W. and Ethel L. (Mayo) Verrill, Sr.

Following his graduation, Mr. Verrill served during the Korean  War with the United States Air Force from 1953 – 1956.

Carrolous married Virginia Hayden and celebrated 53 years of marriage before her passing in 2011.

Cal worked as supervisor at Pratt & Whitney where he could use his talents and skills and was well respected by his co-workers. He loved to learn new things and took many courses in computer science and math.

Some of Mr. Verrill’s hobbies included gardening, woodworking, square dancing, upholstery, and mostly socializing at church. He also volunteered with Habitat for Humanity. Cal built fishing ponds and a log cabin. He was very generous to his community and church family. Cal loved to fly and owned an ultralight plane. Cal loved family get togethers and during the holidays and weddings. He hosted weddings for his daughter-in-law and grandson at his beautiful home.

Cal will be missed by his family, special friends from the Shapleigh Baptist Church and those in his community.

Cal was predeceased by his children, Donald B. Thomas, Robert H. Thomas, and grandson Robbie Thomas, and Joyce Woodman who was like a daughter to him.

Survivors include his siblings: Ruth Herrick, Carolyn Dunham, and Elizabeth Grant, and daughter-in-law Linda Thomas; His grandchildren: Donna Basinger, Donald Thomas, II, Barbara Sleeper, Robert Thomas, II, Judy Thomas Cabodi, James Thomas, Sherry Hall, and Sheila Thomas; and ten great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren and close family friend, Al Woodman.

A Graveside Service with military honors will be on Friday, December 3, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. at the So. Maine Veterans Cemetery, 83 Stanley Road, in Springvale.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be to Activities Fund at the Maine Veterans’ Home, 290 US Route One, Scarborough, ME 04074.
