Service Date:

A Graveside Service will be held later in the spring.

Eva P. White, 98, the beloved matriarch of the family, passed peacefully on January 1, 2022. She was in the care of the dedicated staff of Summer Commons in Sanford.

Eva was born on September 14, 1923, at the family home on Mt. Hope in Sanford. Her parents were the late William Pray and Ada Gowen Pray. She attended a one room schoolhouse on MT. Hope and graduated from Sanford High School in 1942. Eva was predeceased by six siblings: Donald, George, Kenneth, Hazel, Mildred, and Charles.

On April 27, 1943, she married Carl G. White and made their home together at the Look Out Dairy Farm in Shapleigh. She and Carl had a daughter Deborah and son Michael. Eva worked at the Sanford Goodall Mills for ten years then was a stay-at-home mother while her children were in elementary school. From 1968 to 1973 she worked as a seamstress at the Aleta Dress factory in Springvale. Being a dairy farmer’s wife, she cared for family members, lots of children with working parents and elderly neighbors in her home.

Eva’ s heart was full of love and commitment to her five grandchildren. Each morning they would make their way to Grammie’s house for breakfast before catching the school bus. She would make a special breakfast for each one! It did not matter if they wanted fried eggs and toast, pancakes or chicken patties and peas– she was a talented short order cook.

Eva was devoted to her family and members of her community. She has now been reunited with her husband Carl and other family members. We will cherish our memories and remain grateful for her warmth and support throughout our lives.

She is lovingly survived by her daughter Deborah Gaudreau and grandson Martin Gaudreau of Winter Haven, Fl, and her son Michael White of Shapleigh and her four grandchildren, Michael Lindsey McBride and husband Michael and their children Eva and Emersyn of Shapleigh; Meredith Knox and husband Joshua and their children Daxton and Walker of Shapleigh; Mitchell White and wife Amy of West Gardner; and MacKenzie White and partner Tathan Francis of Brooklyn, Conn; and several nieces and nephews.

A Graveside Service will be held later in the spring at the Oakdale in Sanford.

In her memory and with her love for children, please consider donating to the Ronald McDonald House, 250 Brackett St., Portland, ME 04102. This house provides respite for those who have children receiving care from area hospitals.
