Service Date:

A Graveside Service will be held later in the spring at Evergreen Cemetery in Alfred.

Cora R. Carlson, 83, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and aunt, passed peacefully with her daughters by her side on January 9, 2022, at the Lodges Care Center in Springvale.

Cora was born on February 23, 1938, on the family farm in Alfred to Roscoe and Gladys (Adams) Hussey.

Growing up in a large family, she learned early on the value of hard work, sharing with her siblings and the strong bond that forms and lasts a lifetime. Cora loved to cook meals for her family and for special gatherings with her brothers and sisters. She enjoyed hosting an annual “Sister, sisters-in-law Yankee Swap” event each Christmas season with lots of laughter, food, and fun!

She enjoyed visits with her sisters to discuss the most recent updates with the country music scene. Cora and her sisters each had their favorite Country Music Stars – Cora’s were Charley Pride and Alan Jackson. She would often feel the need to defeat Alan’s jeans that had holes in them saying, “He could afford better but just like them that way!”

Cora enjoyed flowers and feeding the birds, taking day trips to the lake and rides around the beaches, and yes stopping to eat seafood! Cora looked forward to attending the local agricultural fairs with her husband Charlie. Especially their annual weekend getaway to the Fryeburg Fair during their anniversary. They also enjoyed visiting North Conway.

Their retirement plan included a dream trip to Nashville, Tennessee – this did not happen due to the unexpected death of Charley. In 1996, she along with her daughter Bonnie and in laws Elaine and Joseph Vachon enjoyed a weeklong trip to the Country Music land! Nashville opened her eyes up to the desire to do more traveling and she enjoyed a vacation in Florida with her two daughters Bonnie and Connie, and a trip to Branson, Missouri with Bonnie.

During her ten years stay at the Lodges, Cora enjoyed being involved with activities including Bingo, arts-n-crafts, and the holiday decorations committee. She also participated in the resident council and loved the entertainment that played for the residents, especially the Country Music entertainers.

Cora will be dearly missed by her family, and she has been reunited in Heaven with her husband, Charles her two sons, James and Ronald, sisters: Caroline and Mary Hussey, Lucille Main, Pauline Burgess and Laura (Betty) Ghidoni; brothers Carroll, Sumner, Arthur, Pete, Elwyn, and Wilbur Hussey.

She is lovingly survived by her children: Bonnie Gagnon and husband Tom of Alfred; Jerry Carlson and wife Sharon of Sanford; Connie Hilton and husband Robert of Sanford; Douglas Carlson and wife Martha of Sanford; and Keith and Kevin Carlson both of West Lebanon, NH. She was also a special Nana to eleven grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren: and sisters Mabel Stearns, Cora Carlson, Phyllis Courtois, Roberta Kerrigan, niece Nancy Hussey, brothers Bob, Tom, Sam, and Nelson Hussey and fifty-one nieces and nephews.

A Graveside Service will be held in the spring at Evergreen Cemetery in Alfred.
