Kendall A. Gerry, Sr. passed peacefully from this life on March 11, 2022, with his beloved family at his side. Kenny was born on May 19, 1935 in Alfred, Maine to Bertha Hutchins and John M. Gerry Sr. He grew up in Alfred, attending Alfred schools and Sanford High School. Shortly after graduating from high school, he met Sylvia Torno, the love of his life. They married on October 20, 1956 and spent sixty-five years by each other’s side. They built a house on Clark Road in Alfred where they raised their three children, Debra, Darlene, and Ken Jr.
Kenny worked for M.H. Parsons Lumber Company, Waterboro Leather Company, Saco Tanning, NRG Barrier, and Deering Lumber. The leather business was his work-life passion, and he became an expert in the making of patent leather. When he was not working, he loved spending time with his family, gardening, camping, and riding snowmobiles and motorcycles.
Kenny retired in 1994 and in 2006, he and Sylvia began wintering in Thonotosassa, Florida. They continued wintering there until just three weeks before his passing. There they made many friends who became their Florida family.
Kenny was the consummate family man. He loved his family very much and was always there to provide unconditional love and support. He never missed a family gathering and always was there to say a kind word, share a laugh, or lend a helping hand to his parents, his siblings, his many nieces and nephews, and his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
Kenny had many friends and never met a person in whom he could not see the good. He was friendly, warm, and kind. It was often said that if you could not get along with Kenny Gerry, you could not get along with anybody.
He is survived by his loving wife, Sylvia Gerry; his children, Debra Gerry and her husband Gary Fries of Scarborough; Darlene Gerry and her partner Doug Davlin of Blackfoot, Idaho; and Ken Gerry, Jr. and his wife Pam of Alfred; his grandchildren Paul Gerry and wife Wendy, Crystal Pike and husband Randy, Jason Gerry and wife Karlita, Matthew Gerry and partner Nichole, David Thibeault and fiancé Heidi, Michael Thibeault and wife Morgan, Michael Fries and wife Melissa and Bradley Fries and wife Laura; eleven great grandchildren; his brother and sister-in-law Keith and Merrie Gerry, his sister and brother-in-law Sharon and Raymond Cote, and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents, John and Bertha Gerry, his sister and brother-in-law, Betty and Donald Thompson, and his brother, John Gerry, Jr.
Kenny had a form of blood cancer in the last eight years of his life and was the recipient of frequent blood transfusions. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages those who can, to donate blood in Kenny’s memory or to donate to causes related to maintaining the nation’s blood supply.
